Try a brief nap, not a long reset

After a short night, a brief nap may help without the initial grogginess seen after a longer nap. Lying with your eyes shut was not the intervention.

AN ACTION TO CONSIDER

When tired in the afternoon, try a short nap if you can fall asleep.

A 10-minute nap improved alertness promptly after sleep restriction; a 30-minute nap initially worsened performance.

Why consider it?

This laboratory study involved healthy young adults after restricted night sleep. The durations describe compared naps, not a quantified percentage improvement. Benefits varied by nap length and time after waking; the result is not a promise that every short rest restores performance.
