Keep the nut portion modest
Nuts are an option for a regular food habit, not an unlimited snack. The people in the study also differed in other aspects of their lifestyle.
Add a modest portion of plain, unsalted nuts rather than eating them without a limit.
At least 7 weekly occasions of eating nuts were associated with 20% lower mortality risk versus none.
Why consider it?
The figure comes from prospective US cohorts and is a relative association. It does not prove that adding nuts causes the reduction or establish a result for every portion size. Nut eaters tended to have healthier overall lifestyles, which can influence the estimate.
