Give your email a password of its own

Reusing a leaked password gives attackers a path from another site into your email. A manager helps you avoid needing to memorize every password.

AN ACTION TO CONSIDER

Use a distinct strong password for each account and keep it in a password manager.

CISA recommends passwords of at least 16 characters, with a different password for each account.

Why consider it?

This is official security guidance, not a quantified estimate of how many compromises a password prevents. The length is a recommendation parameter, not an effect size. A password manager supports using strong distinct passwords; no universal percentage benefit is claimed.
