Give a new habit time to become ordinary
Make the repeatable cue easy to recognize. A missed occasion does not mean you need to discard the whole habit.
Repeat a simple habit in a stable context instead of judging it by a fixed short deadline.
In a small habit study, modeled times to near-full automaticity ranged between 18 days and 254 days.
Why consider it?
The study followed volunteers repeating simple eating, drinking or activity habits. The quoted range is modeled time to 95% of each habit's estimated automaticity plateau, not a universal completion deadline. Model fits were available for only part of the sample; complex habits were not established by this result.
