A window screen is not child fall protection
A screen keeps insects out; it is not a guard. Keep beds, sofas and boxes away from windows a child could reach.
Fit child window protection and move climbable furniture away from windows.
Reported child window falls fell 50% in the Bronx during a guard-and-education program.
Why consider it?
This was a local before-and-after program, combining free window guards with household education. The relative decline in reported falls does not isolate the effect of guards or establish a randomized causal result. Separate injury surveillance shows that lower floors can also be hazardous.
